Birthday Baby

Our sweet Heather turned one year old on November 28th, but we finally officially celebrated oh-so-special day yesterday. Mom, Dad, Jenny and Jaclyn, the Fee family, and the Anderson family crowded in our not-so-big home and we ate lots of odds and ends, played a game Larry invented; a game I describe as a play on Pin the Tail of the Donkey that we decided to call Pin the Heather in the House...

opened (with Natalie's dogged assistance) many sweet gifts, ate large slices of amazing cake...

Heather's personal smash cake... the rainbow cake turned out beautifully!

Double-layer Oreo cake...

Last but never the least, double-layer peanut butter cake topped with Reeses!

...and sat around, trying to talk while the older kids ran through the house screaming things none of us quite understood.

The day was a blast, and it was simple, just the way it needed to be. Heather, the beautiful birthday girl, seemed to enjoy everything. And oh yes, she was ready for bed when the time came!

On a sadder note, Larry left this morning for North Dakota, marking the beginning a new job and new life for our family. I think until he reaches his single man apartment safely, I'll be sick to my stomach and nervous. It's not fun imagining my best friend all alone on strange roads, moving farther and farther from me every minute. Weather permitting though, we'll be joined again for a short while this Christmas :)
